What big fish live in the American river in Sacramento?

i went fishing there yesterday under howe ave bridge, and i saw a huge fish possibly about 4-5 feet long, it came up to the surface, just wondering if anyone know what kind of fish it could of be, my guess is a striper or sturgeon but i don't think sturgeon go up there.
