Do I want multiple partitions when I install my new hard drive?

I don't remember my XP needing multiple partitions. I don't think that there is a benefit at all. i'm sure all it does is create a c: drive and a d: drive. the c drive will probably have XP and the D drive can be used for other things such as, games, programs, files, etc. its jsut a way of staying organized.
